Have some family fun with these Valentine’s crafts for toddlers – from potato prints to homemade cards, decorations and more!

There’s no reason why your little one can’t join in and get crafty this Valentine’s Day. We have plenty of fun simple creative ideas, so get ready to make some memories!

For many of these craft ideas you’ll need paper or card, glue, paint and other crafty things like string, toilet rolls, and maybe some felt. … browse through the list below and choose your favourite ideas to make with your little one.

We’ve also got some fun Valentine’s easy baking recipes that your little ones will love help decorate – check out our heart-shaped fairy cakes and these heart-shaped Valentine’s biscuits!

1. Fingerprint hearts

15 Valentine’s crafts for toddlers - Netmums (2)

1/15

These hearts are easy to make and SO cute when you use your toddler's little thumbs to make them.

Simply dab their thumbs in some red finger-paints, and then press them onto a sheet of white paper one at a time on top of each other at an angle so that they make a heart shape!

Tip: If you have too much paint on the thumb it'll be harder to see the actual fingerprint marks, which are the prettiest bit, so just dab them once lightly on a separate piece of paper first to remove excess paint.

Fingerprint hearts are perfect for simple homemade Valentine's cards for the family and little keepsake pictures.

2. Mini heart canvas

15 Valentine’s crafts for toddlers - Netmums (3)

2/15

We love these cute little canvases. you can buy them very cheaply in craft shops and they make adorable little gifts for special occasions like Valentine's Day.

Get your toddler involved in making a special painting of a heart ...

– Draw a heart on a piece of card that is slightly bigger than your mini canvas
– Cut the heart out of the card so that you have a template
– Hold the heart template in place on top of the canvas and help your toddler fill it in with a romantic colour like pink or red

Tips: Your toddler can try using a paintbrush or their fingers and hands to transfer the paint onto the canvas. It doesn't matter how messy it gets because once you remove the cardboard cutout, you'll have a lovely heart shape filled with your toddler's markings!

3. Heart-shaped potato prints

15 Valentine’s crafts for toddlers - Netmums (4)

3/15

Your toddler will have lots of mark-making fun with these homemade heart-shaped potato prints!

You'll have to carve the potato stamp, of course, and probably help to guide your toddler to dip the potato into the paint and then press it onto the paper.

This is a fun Valentine craft idea for kids and an easy way to design a homemade Valentine's card or picture from your toddler for a loved one... or even their nursery school teacher – how sweet!

4. Tissue paper hearts

15 Valentine’s crafts for toddlers - Netmums (5)

4/15

Your toddler will love helping you scrunch up tissue paper into little balls and stick them onto a cutout heart!

All you need is some sturdy card (choose the same colour card as your tissue paper to help fill in any gaps!), coloured tissue paper and some PVA glue.

When your toddler's heart is sufficiently filled in with all their efforts you can punch a hole in the top and hang their heart from a string in their bedroom.

Tip: If you have lots of tissue paper on your hands you make lots of these to construct an attractive hanging mobile – just hang them all from a wire coat hanger!

5. Painted hand love heart selfies

15 Valentine’s crafts for toddlers - Netmums (6)

5/15

This is a fun, messy Valentine's activity you can do with your kids ...

Paint your toddler's hands with poster paint and dry them off with a hairdryer – make sure it's not too hot!

Then show them how to make a heart-shape using their fingers. Alternatively you can just paint hearts onto their palms instead.

They can look at themselves in the mirror or you can take a selfie with them to send to your other half or friends to wish everyone a cute happy Valentine's from you and your little one!

6. Make love bugs

15 Valentine’s crafts for toddlers - Netmums (7)

6/15

Toilet roll crafts are a classic crafts idea for little ones – and we love these love bugs for Valentine's Day!

You can help your toddler to customise their love bug however they like ...

Here are some cute ideas:

– paint them pink or red
– cut out heart shaped wings
– cut out heart shaped antennas
– stick on googly eyes
– stick on a pom pom nose
– use biodegradable glitter
– decorate with heart stickers
– give it a name
– make it friend to spread the love!

7. Make a bunch of paper flowers

15 Valentine’s crafts for toddlers - Netmums (8)

7/15

How about this for an adorable Valentine's gift for family and friends?

If you're in a couple, one of you can help your toddler to craft a lovely bunch of paper flowers for the other – but if you're a single parent this is just as fun to do with your toddler!

You'll have to cut out most of the components for your little one, but they can help with any colouring in and sticking down.

Half of the fun is gifting the bunch of flowers to a valentine though, so why not take your toddler around to your neighbour's house so that they can wish them a Happy Valentine's Day?

8. Pressed flowers

15 Valentine’s crafts for toddlers - Netmums (9)

8/15

Pressing flowers is such a quaint, old-fashioned hobby that's perfect for Valentine's!

There's plenty of fun to be had with your toddler ...

...from going out to collect flowers from the garden or choosing some from your local flower shop ...

... to arranging the flowers in the flower press or inside a big old heavy book for pressing ...

... to revealing the finished pressed flowers a few weeks later and making pretty pictures!

You can choose to press the flowers ahead of time if you like, so that your toddler can have fun sticking them in a picture frame for a special Valentine's gift or memento.

9. Paper plate woven heart

15 Valentine’s crafts for toddlers - Netmums (10)

9/15

This craft is great for toddlers and practicing hand-eye coordination!

The beauty of this idea is that your toddler's weaving doesn't have to be perfect, symmetrical or follow any kind of pattern – they can literally weave in and out of any hole they like!

Just cut a heart shape out of a paper plate and then use a hole punch or pencil to poke good-sized holes all around the heart.

Then thread some coloured wool onto a chunky plastic needle and guide your little one to poke it through the holes, aiming for the somewhere on the opposite side each time.

These look really pretty when they're finished if you hang them in the window so that the light can shine through the woven heart.

10. Paper heart flowers

15 Valentine’s crafts for toddlers - Netmums (11)

10/15

We love these cute paper flowers made from paper hearts, inspired by Red Ted Art, and we think they're perfect to make with your toddler.

First draw and cut out all of your hearts. Your toddler can help by organising them into colours for you.

(to get symmetrical hearts, fold the paper in half and draw half a heart with the middle at the folded edge, then cut it out and unfold into the full heart!)

You'll need 4 hearts per flower and a pom pom each for the centres. Just stick them together like in the picture – with your toddler's help, of course!

11. Valentine's Day washing line

15 Valentine’s crafts for toddlers - Netmums (12)

11/15

We love this idea from Red Ted Art – it's a washing line with pegs that you can use to hang up your Valentine's cards, pictures and heart decorations!

All you need is a piece of string, several pegs and some adornments like little hearts to glue on the pegs, or you can just paint the pegs pink and red!

Clip clothes pegs to the string and you're ready to attach all your toddler's other crafts ...

– make potato print hearts to cut out and clip to your line
– make homemade Valentine's cards
– display your toddler's drawings of the family

12. Stuffed love heart

15 Valentine’s crafts for toddlers - Netmums (13)

12/15

have fun making this simple stuffed love heart cushion hanging decoration with your toddler ...

Just cut two red heart shapes from card or felt and decorate with glue and tissue/paint/ biodegradable glitter/cellophane or whatever you have to hand.

Glue or staple your hearts together and stuff with tissue for a 3D heart!

13. Decorate Valentine's biscuits

15 Valentine’s crafts for toddlers - Netmums (14)

13/15

Baking biscuits is something your toddler will love to get involved with.

They can help with the mixing, rolling and cutting ... and of course the best bit – decorating!

Use different coloured icing and let your toddler ass sprinkles. You can even help them to pipe on some icing hearts!

Tip: For an easy life just buy plain ready made biscuits to decorate! if you're baking your own use a simple recipe such as this one foreasy iced biscuits. If you have a heart-shaped cookie cutter, even better!

14. Stained glass hearts

15 Valentine’s crafts for toddlers - Netmums (15)

14/15

Try this pretty valentine's craft idea with your toddler. It's really easy, but they'll still need lots of help.

Use a clear plastic bag as your base. Tear up coloured paper and dip into a mixture of water and PVA glue. Stick onto the bag, and when dry, cut out a heart shape.

Place it in a heart frame cut from card and stick on the window to watch the sunlight coming through ... it's enough to make the whole family feel loved up!

15. Colouring in

15 Valentine’s crafts for toddlers - Netmums (16)

15/15

For a really simple Valentine's activity and an easy way to get your toddler involved in making something cute for Valentine's Day – we have plenty of free printable Valentine's cards you can print off for your toddler to colour in!

Help them to tear up bits of paper to stick down for more of a collage effect, and don't forget to add other adornments like biodegradable glitter and confetti hearts too!

There are over 160,000 autistic children in the UK, according to the National Autistic Society.

And children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) face an array of challenges, which can include difficulty communicating, interacting and learning.

But sensory skills are important for autistic children to learn because it helps them to better understand their environment and become more aware of their emotions.

Ahead of World Autism Acceptance Week on 2-8 April 2024, we spoke to the educational toy experts at Edx Education who describe how sensory toys can help. And we’ve made some recommendations for the best toys to buy (including the most gorgeous cuddle-giving toy!)

Why are sensory toys good for autistic children?

The experts at Edx Education say sensory toys can help with many aspects of autism, they say:

  • They can be helpful for emotional self-regulation, helping children to relax, focus and calm down to a particular scenario or event
  • They can help decrease fear and discomfort, and enable children to play naturally
  • They can improve communication and language skills as children discuss their play activity
  • They are helpful for balancing sensory input and output
  • They can help with social skills like planning, negotiating, and sharing
  • They can help improve cognitive development, motor skills and physical capability

Check out our pick of fun and engaging sensory toys that we think ALL children will want:

Fancy a day out with the kids this Easter packed with music, tasty food... and heart-in-your-mouth rollercoaster rides? We've got just the place!

The Easter half-term break is so close we can almost taste it (or is that just the chocolate calling?). And if you’re looking for somewhere to take the whole family – where you’ll get the flavour of New Orleans without needing your passports – then Thorpe Park is the perfect place.

That’s because as well as all of its thrilling rides and fun attractions, from 29 March – 14 April, the Surrey theme park is also throwing a massive Mardi Gras celebration… and everyone’s invited!

With yummy food, live entertainment and, of course, Thorpe Park’s world-class rides, all you need to do is gather the troops and join the party!

What is Thorpe Park’s Mardi Gras event?

Taking place from 29 March – 14 April, Mardi Gras is back at Thorpe Park for 2024. This exciting event is on over the Easter holidays, so it’s the perfect way to celebrate with your family while enjoying all the thrills of your favourite theme park.

Mardi Gras is a celebration in New Orleans, Louisiana where there are parades, parties and all kinds of fun. And, now all those festival vibes are coming to Thorpe Park.

For two weeks, visitors can enjoy family shows, parades, street food and live music which will all be taking place around the park.

How much does the Mardi Gras event cost?

If you fancy joining in with all the exciting celebrations, then the good news is that the event won’t cost you anything – entry is included in the price of your park ticket, which you can book here.

Ticket prices start from just £29 per person for a one-day ticket, or why not make a real celebration out of it and stay overnight?

What age is the Mardi Gras event suitable for?

Thrill-seekers of ANY age will love this event, because there’s something for everyone. For grown-ups there’s co*cktails, street food and live music, and for littles there’s parades, shows and entertainment.

The whole family will enjoy all the celebrations – in fact, it might be hard to tear you away from Mardi Gras to ride Nemesis Inferno one more time!

What can I look forward to?

There’s so much going on during the Mardi Gras event that you’ll want to keep coming back again and again to make sure you haven’t missed anything.

Here’s some of the top things to look out for:

  • Funky Beats – Get your groove on and let out your inner diva with live Mardi Gras music. From funky jazz to awesome live sets, and a co*cktail and soak it all up.
  • Louisiana Treats – Taste your way around the deep south with stacks of scrumptious food for you to try.
  • Mardi Vibes – Spice up your life and party like no one’s watching with Thorpe Park’s epic live Mardi Gras shows, entertainment, and street parade – strut your stuff, there’s no judgement here.
  • Thrilling Rides – Brace yourself as you’re launched from 0-80mph in under two seconds on the UK’s fastest rollercoaster Stealth! Then feel the force of Nemesis Inferno, one of the UK’s most intense ride experiences.

15 Valentine’s crafts for toddlers - Netmums (71)

What else is there to do at Thorpe Park?

When you’ve finished with all the Mardi Gras excitement, there’s a whole theme park waiting to be explored.

Reach new heights with Stealth the UK’s fastest roller coaster, take flight on THE SWARM, or face one of Jigsaw’s most twisted traps with SAW – The Ride. This is the world’s first horror-themed roller coaster featuring a 100ft ‘beyond-vertical’ drop.

Plunge down the super-soaking 85ft drop on Tidal Wave, get drenched on the 64ft spiralling descent on Storm Surge and play splash roulette on the Island’s ferocious Rumba Rapids as you experience the UK’s wettest water rides.

if you’ve got littler legs in tow then swing through 180 degrees on Mr Monkey’s Banana Ride while little thrill seekers can enjoy the playground. And there’s Amity Beach where the whole family can relax at the water’s edge, make sand creations or splash in the pool.

How do I book?

If you fancy visiting Thorpe Park during the Easter break and enjoying the Mardi Gras event and more, then you can book your tickets here.

Prices start from just £29 per person and children under 1.2m tall visit for free!

Or, make the most of your adventure by booking into the Thorpe Shark cabins. Along with an awesome overnight stay, included in the price is park entry for two days, Fastrack until 11am on your second day, a free breakfast, 10% off in the park’s gift shops and more!

Right now, you can get your 2nd day FREE and Easter Dates included!

Book your Spring staycation by 28th March and enjoy a second day of thrills for free – including Easter dates from just £189!

More information

If there’s anything else you’d like to know about visiting Thorpe Park or its Mardi Gras event, then head to the website where you’ll find all the info you need.

Suitable for ages 2-7.
“It’s all as entertainingly random as the book, particularly for those younger people in attendance. The manner in which they go about the choosing is joyous, inviting young volunteers from the audience to pick a character….” – David Pollock, The List
“Quite simply, it’s fun, it’s funny, it appears a simple format but is actually clever; it’s a great family show…” – Anne Hamilton, Lothian Life
“There is plenty of choice and bundles of energy at Nonsense Room Productions’ adaptation of the children’s picture book, You Choose….” – Thom Dibdin, All Edinburgh Theatre.

A stage play adapted from the original TV series written by Richard Curtis and Paul Mayhew-Archer.

Milton Keynes Theatre of Comedy return to Dibley for a fourth and final visit reuniting the cast from previous sell out productions.
Vicar Geraldine Granger is approaching a milestone birthday and the parishioners gift her an evening of speed dating to find love. Though she is unsuccessful in her search there, a new arrival in the village soon catches her attention. Is there a mutual spark of attraction there? Will Geraldine finally get to walk down the aisle or will the other quirky inhabitants of Dibley mess things up for her? Will there be a holy wholly happy ending?
The script includes innuendo and mild swearing but not enough to stop it being shown on TV on a Sunday afternoon! An amateur production to professional standards.
Previous sell out shows have included ‘Fawlty Towers’, ‘Blackadder’, ‘Porridge’, ‘the Vicar of Dibley‘ and ‘‘Allo ‘Allo’.
